Blogging is an excellent learning tool. Students can write to demonstrate learning or write for an authentic audience. Once again I recommend using www.weebly.com. You can signup for a free teacher account or purchase the Pro-version for as little as $30 a year. I purchased the pro-version so that my students would be able to load video or audio without using youtube. It just made life easier for several reasons: I could create more student accounts, students could upload video and audio directly to the page, and larger files could be uploaded.

In my Computer Application class students learned how to merge a word document and a spreadsheet together using a function called Mail Merge. I wanted the project to be authentic, so students wrote letters from Santa. The letters where sent home to Elementary student's parents. The letters had blank spaces for parents to complete and send back in order to personalize the letters. Once the letters came back, students constructed a database using Numbers. They went through a few steps to merge the two together. Below is a video showing the results of their work. This project took place during November and December. In my Technology Literacy Class students learned how to create Google Earth tours. Students choose from the following topics: Seven Wonders of the World, Civil War Events, Events of Lincoln's Assassination, Events of JFK's Assassination, World War II Events, World War I Events, or student choice with teacher approval. Below is an example of one 8th grade student's Google Earth Tour on the events of JFK's Assassination. http://www.sde.com/technology/resources.asp is a list of resources.

www.edu.glogster is a great tool to engage students in creating content. It allows one to create a digital poster and embed video, load audio and apply graphic design principles. Below is a glog created by a middle school student. www.goanimate.com is a free animation software that is easy to use and a great way to engage students in creating content. Check out this animation created by a middle student as a part of his dystopia project. http://goanimate.com/videos/0_rK7da2XCLI?utm_source=linkshare&uid=0qTeMYM2MXfc Apple has an app called iBooks. Teachers or students can create digital content and upload it to the iBook store. Once it is uploaded to the store it can be downloaded to ipads. If you can create a keynote then you can create an iBook with ease. Video, 3D images, and interactive text can be added to the book.
